KNU Launches the “Myanmar Military’s War Crime in Kawthoolei: Loss of Lives and Livelihoods after the Coup of 2021” Report

The Karen National Union (KNU) hosted a ceremony to launch the "Loss of Lives and Livelihoods after the Coup of 2021" report. The report comprehensively details human rights violations perpetrated by the military coup d'état during the period from February 1, 2021, to December 31, 2022.

The event took place at the KNU headquarters. More than 60 attendees, including leaders and officials from various departments, the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), CBOs/CSOs, and representatives from news media, participated in the event.

According to the event agenda: The event commenced with a welcoming speech and the articulation of its purpose by Padoh Saw Hser Pwe, Joint General Secretary (1) of KNU. Tharamu Naw Paw Ghay Ku, Secretary of the KNU Human Rights Committee, provided insights into the rationale behind publishing the report. Tharamu Hsa Th’Moo, the acting head of the Research and Records Division under the Organizing and Information Department of the KNU, elucidated the efforts invested in producing the report. New Generation Leadership Program (NGLP) students performed the song "We Need Peace" during the event.

-    The report's content was presented by Saw Thaw Moe Eh. Padoh Saw Kler Say, Secretary of the Organization and Information Department of KNU, delivered the recommendations. A film documentation, created by the Public Relations and Information Division and related to the report's contents, was screened.

-    A Q&A session involving media representatives and leaders from various departments ensued after the presentations. Visual documentation, consisting of pictures created by the Public Relations and Information Division and related to the report's contents, was showcased.

-    A one-minute prayer session was observed for those affected by the human rights violations of the coup terrorist. The event featured a performance of the song "Doh Ta Wun (Our Responsibility)." Closing remarks were given by Padoh Saw Hla Tun, Joint General Secretary (2) of KNU.
