Karen National Union’s Two-Week Training on Governance and Public Administration Successfully Completed

A two-week capacity building training program for district and township level leaders of the Karen National Union was held at KNU-Central headquarters in Klo Yaw Lay from the 30^th of October to the 11^th of November 2023, with the aim of making governance and public administration activities more efficient in the Kawthoolei administrative area. A total of 40 representatives from four districts of Kawthoolei-administered area, Doo Tha Htu District, Dooplaya District, Hpa-An District and Mergui-Tavoy District participated.

This training course was jointly organized by the Governance Capacity Building Committee formed after the 17th Congress of the Karen National Union and the School of Governance and Public Administration (SGPA) who also took part as technical support.

When asked about this course, “The purpose of our revolution is to achieve self-determination. We can create our own political, social and economic destiny only when we have the ability to govern ourselves,” said Padoh Saw Kwe Htoo Win, Chairperson of the KNU.

On the evening of the 11^th of November, Padoh Saw Hla Tun, Chairperson of the Governance Capacity Building Committee, said, "At some point in the future, we will organize such a training program in order for all our township and district administrators to participate."
