Karen Youth Organization (KYO) Successfully Hosts Summer Youth Camp (SYC)

The Karen Youth Organization (KYO) in the 1st Brigade of Doo Tha Htu District, within the Kawthoolei administrative area, organized and hosted the Summer Youth Camp (SYC) from May 3 to May 23, 2023.

The objective of the Summer Youth Camp (SYC) was to foster the development of a new generation of Karen youth leaders and enhance their understanding of the Karen revolution. The overarching goal is to raise awareness about the Karen revolution, advocate for the Karen people's struggles, and foster collaboration with all oppressed ethnic groups towards the establishment of a federal democratic union.

The youth camp curriculum encompassed a range of topics such as the Historical Struggle of the Karen, KNU Policy and Constitution, Future Plans and 14 Departments, Introduction to Federalism, Human Rights, KWO and KYO Constitutions, The Role of Youth in Nation Building, Media Sector, Environmental & Conservation issues, Leadership Skills, along with Physical Fitness and Basic Military Training.

A total of 77 youth trainees from five townships—Hpa-an, Beilin, Kyaik Hto, Thaton, and Paung (Moscow)—in Doo Tha Htu District, participated in the Youth Camp, representing both Karen and Bamar communities.
