Aiming to elevate the governance standards within the Karen National Union (KNU), representatives and officials from the three northern districts of Kawthoolei recently engaged in an extensive workshop titled "Leadership, Governance, and Administration." The comprehensive training spanned twelve days, from June 5 to 17, 2023, and was conducted at a designated venue in Mutraw District.
During a fortnight-long training initiative, a group of 32 participants, including leaders and representatives from diverse departments, assembled from eight townships spanning three districts—specifically, Taw Oo, Kler Lwee Htu, and Mu Traw Districts. The all-encompassing training encompassed four principal subjects: Governance and Public Administration, Economics and Natural Resources Management, Legal Management, and Environmental Management.
Furthermore, the participants engaged in conversations and problem-solving sessions addressing issues pertaining to current on-the-ground conditions, challenges, and expectations. The coordination of this course resulted from a joint endeavor between the Karen National Union (KNU) and the School of Governance and Public Administration (SGPA), exemplifying a collective initiative to organize and facilitate the training.
The training encompassed the formulation of guidelines and procedures aimed at enhancing the operation and effectiveness of governance and departmental administration. These guidelines were designed to align with the 21 policies adopted during the recent 17th Congress of the Karen National Union (KNU).
