The 74th Kawthoolei Armed Forces (KAF) Day Held at the Headquarters

The Karen National Union (KNU) commemorated the 74th anniversary of Kawthoolei Armed Forces (KAF) on July 5, 2023, at the KNU General Headquarters, 7th Brigade, Hpa-an District, Kawthoolei.

Over 400 people, including key leaders from the KNU, Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), ethnic allied forces, and local residents, attended at the event. The ceremony of the 74th KAF Day was led by Padoh Naw Shee Wah and Tharamu Naw Eh Paw Wah as the master of ceremonies.

During the ceremony, 24th Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Saw Moses led the salute for the Karen national flag, fallen leaders, comrades, and civilians. This was followed by the opening speech delivered by Padoh Saw Hla Tun, KNU Joint General Secretary (2).

During the 74th commemoration of KAF Day, Tharamu Naw Eh Ni Aung presented the felicitation letter dispatched by KNU Chairperson Padoh Saw Kwe Htoo Win. Furthermore, Padoh Saw Kler Say, serving as the KNU spokesperson and a member of the Central Standing Committee, provided insights into the historical inception of the KAF.

Padoh Saw Hser Ghay, Vice Chairperson of the KNU, along with Major General Mahn Shar Tu Gaw of the KNLA and Padoh Saw Thamein Tun, a member of the Central Standing Committee, individually delivered their congratulatory speeches.

The event featured performances by KNLA special forces, students and teachers from the New Generation Leadership Program (NGLP). Colonel Saw Paw Doh conveyed appreciation to those present at the 74th KAF Day, and the event concluded with the Karen national anthem.
