Unity Committee for Karen Armed Groups (UCKAG) Successfully Administers Free Mobile Eye Surgery

Led by KNU Hpa-an District, the Unity Committee for Karen Armed Groups (UCKAG) organized a week-long free mobile eye surgery initiative from June 14 to 20, 2023, within the 7th Brigade/Hpa-an District, Kawthoolei.

Spearheading the initiative, Padoh Saw Aung Maw Aye, the Chairman of Hpa-an District, led the free mobile eye surgery program in Naung Thayar Village, Doo Yaw (Don Yin) Township, Hpa-an District. Throughout the program, 151 individuals underwent eye surgeries, 290 sought assistance for glasses at the eye clinic, resulting in a comprehensive outreach where a total of 441 people received eye-related treatments.

Led by Dr. Nay Hser, the eye care program has successfully treated a noteworthy total of 14,000 patients from 2008 to 2023. This mobile eye care initiative took place in Hpa-an District under the guidance of Hpa-an District Chairman Padoh Saw Aung Maw Aye. Key figures, including Colonel Saw Di Kwe Htoo, the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) Strategic Operation Commander of the 7th Brigade, and Padoh Naw Shee Wah, the Head of the Department of Organization and Information, actively participated in the event. The collaborative engagement extended to various district/brigade officials and township representatives, all of whom played pivotal roles in the program's success. This collective commitment underscores the dedication of a diverse group of individuals working towards enhancing accessibility to eye care within the community.
