NCCT Leaders Meet KIO Standing Committee Members and NCCT Technical Team Meets KIA Military Leaders

The Nationwide Ceasefire Coordinating Team (NCCT) leaders, including NCCT Deputy Leader-1 and KNU General Secretary P’doh Saw Kwe Htoo Win, NCCT Technical Team leader and KNU Central Executive Committee member P’doh Saw Tah Doh Moo and KNU Central Standing Committee member and KNU Technical Team member Major Saw Tamala Thaw met with Kachin Independent Organization (KIO) Standing Committee members at Laiza, Kachin State on the 17 May 2014.


They presented to KIO senior leaders on the NCCT activities following the forming of NCCT at the Laiza Conference at the end of October 2013. This included the activities starting from the formation of NCCT up until the first formal meeting with the Union Peace-Making Working Committee (UPWC) in April 2014 at the Myanmar Peace Center, Rangoon. The NCCT leaders also discussed and presented on the Single Text Nationwide Ceasefire Draft Agreement document, the achievements and challenges faced.


The following day, 18 May 2014, NCCT Technical Team led by P’doh Saw Tah Doh Moo (KNU) and Col Sin Wa (KIO) presented on the Code of Conduct, Monitoring system, and the role of the troops in the ceasefire to the Kachin Independent Army (KIA) military leadership. Major Saw Tamla Thaw, the deputy leader of KNU Technical Team also participated in the meeting.


Major Saw Tamala Thaw was able to share his experience from the KNLA side of the preliminary ceasefire. P’doh Saw Tah Doh Moo said, “This was a good opportunity for us to share with the KIA military leadership the concept of ceasefire from the KNU perspective.” Following the presentation, KIA was able to have a time for questions and answers.
