Inventory and Summary of Human Rights Violations committed by the Myanmar military junta forces in the Kawthoolei Administrative Area (2023)

According to the records of the KNU-Karen National Union's Information and Release Center (Headquarters), in the Kawthoolei administrative area, the Myanmar military junta forces brutally committed a minimum of 18 types of human rights violations in order to maintain their power and to gain control over Kawthoolei administrative areas during the entire year of 2023.

The types and numbers of human rights violations committed by the Myanmar military junta forces in Kawthoolei administered areas are as follow-

1. Air-strikes against civilians-791 times
2. Heavy artilleries against civilians- 2075 times
3. Shooting civilians by small arms- 4 times
4. Arbitrarily shooting at the civilians- 26 times
5. Planting land-mines on civilian roads- 40 times
6. Abducting and forcing civilians to serve as porters - 2 times
7. Arresting and killing civilians- 55 times
8. Torturing civilians- 14 times
9. Using civilians as human shields- 3 times
10. Burning civilians’ properties- 56 times
11. Destroying civilians’ homes- 4 times
12. Raiding civilians’ houses and confiscating their belongings - 3 times
13. Looting civilians’ belongings- 27 times
14. Using civilians as forced labour- 8 times
15. Forcefully pushing the civilians to migrate- 1 time
16. Extorting from civilians- 5 times
17. Extorting by arresting civilians- 5 times
18. Threatening civilians- 6 times

The Myanmar military junta forces committed 18 types of human rights violations in a total number of 3125. Because of those human rights violations, 197 civilians were arbitrarily arrested and 195 of them brutally got killed. Also, not only 661 civilians were injured, but also 18 churches, 25 monasteries, 1 mosque, 16 schools, 2 clinics, 5 hospitals, 91 public buildings, 11 farms, 1869 houses were destroyed by the Myanmar military junta forces.

In the above listed data, it is known that the human rights violations committed by the Myanmar military junta forces are much higher than the damages caused from 2021 to 2023 when the coup d'état took place. This information is merely collected data; further information remains uncollectible; therefore, the actual damage may exceed the amount of data listed.
