KNU meet Senior General Min Aung Hlaing & Vice President, Dr Sai Mauk Kham and highest Tatmadaw leaders in Naypyidaw

KNU meet Senior General Min Aung Hlaing & Vice President, Dr Sai Mauk Kham in Naypyidaw:

To discuss a Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement and Peace Process in Burma, the Karen National Union (KNU) held two separate meetings with the military forces' Commander–in–Chief, Senior General Min Aung Hling and the Vice President Dr. Sai Mauk Kham in Naypyidaw on March 7, 2014.


The KNU delegation led by KNU Chairman, General Saw Mutu Sae Poe met with Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and senior leaders at Bayintnaung Hall, the hall of the 500 acre model farm, Naypyidaw on 7th March 2014 at 2pm. Other KNU members included KNU General Secretary, P’doh Saw Kwe Htoo Win, Political and Military Affairs Advsior to KNU Chairman, Col Saw Htoo Htoo Lay and, Central Executive Committee Members; P’doh Saw Roger Khin, P’doh Saw Tah Doh Moo and P’doh Maung Nyein Maung.


When meeting with Senior General Min Aung Hling, the KNU discussed the importance of the military involvement in the Nationwide Ceasefire discussions and Peace Process in Burma. Min Aung Hlaing promised the KNU delegates "the military is committed and moving forward with the current Peace Process. We are not turning back".


According to P’doh Saw Kwe Htoo Win: “Both parties agreed that we are committed to continuing with the Peace Process until we succeed. The conflict has been ongoing for over 60 years and will take time to solve. Based on trust and understanding when problems arise, both sides need to openly and friendly meet together and discuss a way to overcome the obstacles through negotiations”.


At 6pm another meeting was hold with Vice-President and Union Peacemaking Working Committee (UPWC) Chairman, Dr Sai Mauk Kham and, UPWC Vice-Chairman and Chief Negotiator, Minister U Aung Min. The two parties discussed the current situation and the future successful implementation of the Peace Process.


Karen National Union Chairman meets highest Tatmadaw leaders in Naypyidaw:


28 September 2013, Naypyidaw : A ten member KNU delegation team led by KNU Chairman Gen. Mutu Sae Poe, met with Tatmadaw highest officials, led by Sr Gen Min Aung Hlaing in Naypyidaw. The meeting, which lasted two and a half hours from 2-4.30 pm, resulted in the Tatmadaw gaining understanding on the peace process.


The meeting discussed resuming and finalising the Code of Conduct prior to the Nationwide Ceasefire, relocation of some army camps to show tangible change in the frontier areas of KNU, the role of Tatmadaw in the Nationwide Ceasefire meeting and introducing the Commander in Chief of the Tatmadaw with other ethnic armed groups alongside the KNU in the near future.

The meeting gained more understanding between the Tatmadaw and the KNU leaders. It provided positive outcomes and results for further confidence building steps while strengthen the peace process.

Saw Johny, QMG Gen Saw Issac, CEC members Mahn Nyein Maung and P'doh Saw Tah Doh Moo, Dooplaya district chairman, Saw Shwe Mawn, Political and Military Advisor to KNU Chairman, Col Saw Htoo Htoo Lay and his assistance Saw Baw Boe and General Secretary assistance Saw Nimrod.
