Karen National Union vice Chair Person P'doh Saw Kweh Htoo Win Explain Myanmar Peace Process and Challenges to PLRI

The Peace Leadership and Research Institute under the program of Thabay Education Foundation organised a Discussing Event titled "Myanmar Peace Process: Its Challenges and Possible Way Forward" on the 19 January 2019. P'doh Saw Kwe Htoo Win, Vice-Chairman of the Karen National Union (KNU) was invited to attend and lead the discussion of the event.

The Karen National Union is actively participating in Myanmar’s Peace Process and is working hard on the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) said P'doh Saw Kwe Htoo Win while giving an explanation of Myanmar’s Peace Process.

Currently, there are a lot of challenges with the Peace Process. Even though we all are looking forward to building a federal and democracy country, every stakeholder and responsible persons are implementing the NCA based on their own understanding. As a result, our negotiation is blocked and seems to be ignored. Thereby, making this more difficult for us said P'doh Saw Kwe Htoo Win.

Although the Karen National Union (KNU) has announced its withdrawl from formal talks, it does not mean that the KNU has stopped or is ignoring the NCA. Rather, the KNU is finding the way to implement the purpose of NCA through informal talks.

P'doh Saw Kwe Htoo Win also remarked that in order to build a federal and democracy country with full justice, equality and freedom, then understanding between us is very needed. We need to try harder to build trust between one another.

In summary, Myanmar politics needs reforming. Furthermore, educators, peace expertises and educated young leaders need to actively participate in the Peace Process.

During the discussion, P'doh Saw Kwe Htoo Win also added that, he welcomed and encouraged the students to continue their studies.  He believes that the outcome that this program provides will be helpful and Myanmar ethnic's conflict, civil war and many crises can be solved.

Students of Peace Leadership and Research Institute, representatives of civil society organisations and interested persons participated at the event.
